Shane and Emily Tasker are thankful to see God opening doors as their ministry develops near the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their first container arrived safely, allowing them to establish their home near the DRC border. The Bible study is growing, with two people preparing for baptism and plans developing for a missions trip to a nearby village. The believers have chosen the name Église Baptiste Ebenezer (Ebenezer Baptist Church) for the church when it is formally organized. They are also expecting another container filled with Scriptures in local languages, although $11,000 is still needed for the remaining shipping costs.
God is also providing new opportunities to build relationships and share the Gospel. A community event expected to draw 400–600 people is being held near their home, giving the Taskers an opportunity to meet many people. Emily has been developing a relationship with a woman who has faced many difficulties and been exposed to several religions, but she is beginning to show an openness to the Gospel. Relationships are also growing with local farm workers who are helping Shane and Emily learn the language and culture, creating another natural opportunity to reach individuals and their families.
The Taskers are facing some significant health concerns as well. Emily continues to experience paralysis and dysfunction in her esophagus, and a recent biopsy did not reveal a clear cause or treatment beyond pain management. Her mother, Cindy, is also battling cancer that has spread significantly. Thankfully, radiation eliminated 13 brain tumors and greatly reduced the remaining tumor, but her overall condition remains serious. Despite these difficult circumstances, Shane and Emily continue trusting the Lord and moving forward with the ministry opportunities He has placed before them.
Pray for Cindy, for comfort, strength, healing, and wisdom concerning her cancer treatment.
Pray for Emily’s health, especially relief and answers concerning her esophageal condition.
Pray for God to provide the remaining $11,000 for the Scripture container shipping costs.
Pray that the Scriptures will reach many people and have a lasting Gospel impact.
Pray for continued growth of the DRC ministry and for the church to be legally established.
Pray for the two believers preparing for baptism.
Pray for Gospel opportunities through the community event and relationships with local families and farm workers.
Pray for Shane’s naturalization and visa renewal to work out in the proper timing.
Pray for continued wisdom and protection concerning the Ebola outbreak.
