Rusty and Karen Pilalas believe the Lord is leading them into a new season of ministry after many years of serving military families in Germany. With both approaching 70 and Karen facing ongoing health concerns, they have been praying about returning to the United States. Karen’s medical needs have included treatment following a heart attack requiring two stents, surgery for hyperparathyroidism, and continued care for osteoporosis. She has already spent time in Northwest Florida establishing care with new doctors.

Their return to America will depend largely on finding the right person to lead Eifel Baptist Church. Rusty does not plan to leave until another pastor is ready to take the pulpit, and they are currently praying about a possible individual for that responsibility. Once they are settled in America, the Pilalases hope to continue serving through two ministries: providing pulpit relief for missionaries and pastors overseas who need furlough, and helping churches located near military bases develop effective ministries to active-duty military members and their families. 

Their burden for the military remains strong. They see military members and families facing significant stress and believe this creates important opportunities to point people toward Christ and help them become established in strong local churches. Although their location and responsibilities may soon change, their desire remains to reach and disciple military families and encourage churches to become more involved in this ministry.

• Pray for wisdom and clear direction concerning the timing of their return to the United States.

• Pray for opportunities to help churches develop effective military outreach ministries.

• Pray for the men and women serving in the military, especially those facing stress and searching for answers.

• Pray that military members and their families will hear the Gospel, trust Christ, and become established in strong local churches.

• Pray for the Pilalases as they transition into this next season of ministry.
